Color + Light + Portrait!
Sundays Jan 25 - Mar 8, 4:00-8:00pm

6 weeks with one of the most fun & popular classes Elizabeth has taught, Color + Light + Portrait. Each week students will be presented with a different colored lighting scheme in order to execute a variety of skills in painting. We will focus on speed, nuance, structure and of course, lots of COLOR. This class is designed to strengthen your approach in a typical 3-hour art model session.

This class combines 3 hours of model time with an additional half hours bookended for focused discussion and feedback on the night’s work. From 4:30pm-7:30pm there will be a single portrait pose for the entire 3 hours, with a new model each week. Elizabeth will demo techniques and provide ample feedback to guide you through a single 3-hour alla prima portrait sitting. When the pose ends at 8:30pm, we will spend time discussing the results of our session’s work.

*No class meeting on Feb 15th

STILL LIFE

January 3,4 & 10,11
10-5pm Saturdays & Sundays

Join us as we all recover from the busy-ness of the holiday season with two weeks of contemplative still life work. Workshop has been extended to meet over 2 weekends for 4 full days of painting and learning!

We will focus on developing personal artwork from direct observation. Students can bring in their own objects or choose from a selection at the studio. We will begin with a lecture on the important components of good painting design, and then use the still life genre as a method for implementation of key concepts. Discussion topics will focus on solid drawing, composition, design, color control, edges, and efficiency.

The art of creating a still life brings a variety of aesthetic challenges together. Composition, color, rhythm, drawing, relationships, focus, depth of field - so many ways to engage with representational work!
