6 Week Figure

Sept 13 - Oct 18, 4 - 8pm

Our focus will be on the academic approach to figure drawing and painting, with better, accurate & structural drawing of a complex subject being the foundational emphasis to take forward with you. You will investigate how to interrelate the different forms of the body to create a beautiful composition, intentionally designed complex figurative work.

The series will dedicate 18 hours with the same female model (Brittany) in the same pose. Beginning lecture, demo, suggested homework, and feedback will be provided during the course.

The challenge of the academic figure is that it builds a more structural sense of all complex subjects, with opportunities to explore anatomy, rhythm, rendering, structure and form.

My figure approach is from years of atelier work: so emphasis will be on design accuracy, likeness, sound anatomy and strong gesture, and convincing form & light.

Sundays Aug 16 - 30, 4:00-8:00pm

Kicking off pre-fall painting with a 3 week series on single session portrait painting. We will focus on speed, nuance, structure and color. This class is designed to strengthen your approach in a typical 3-hour art model session. Each week you will be presented with a slightly different challenge or objective.

Week 1: Demo emphasis on drawing
Week 2-3: Demo emphasis on color

This class combines 3 hours of model time with an additional half hours bookended for focused discussion or feedback on the night’s work. From 4:30pm-7:30pm there will be a single portrait pose for the entire 3 hours, with a new model each week. Elizabeth will demo techniques and provide ample feedback to guide you through a single 3-hour alla prima portrait sitting. When the pose ends at 7:30pm, we will spend time discussing the results of our session’s work.
