Studio Zanaganda offers small group classes in traditional drawing & painting on a rotating basis with about 8 artists. Primary topic is portraiture, with occasional adventures into figure and still life. The best way to be notified of new class is the mailing list.

MATERIALS, including oil paint colors, WILL BE PROVIDED.

You will come away from this highly focused workshop with a better command over your oil painting palette and an understanding of how to utilize color in your work. Elizabeth will present and break down the intuitive systems she uses for a variety of subjects into more digestible, understandable material.

Texts referenced for this class include Itten, Albers, Fletcher, Munsell, Gurney, Schmid and a few other more obscure resources.

This fantastic opportunity will exclusively focus on exploring color in paint: relative values, controlling chromaticity, and how different oil pigments interact with each other across the spectrum available to the artist.

Day 1 Schedule:
Brief History of Color organization from Newton to CIELAB
Exploration on Color vs. Value.
Controlling Chroma to depict Light.
Day 2 Schedule:
Color systems in painting - Families and Gamut Mapping
Fletcher Palette & Munsell Principles
Create a practical controlled-chroma compliment color wheel.

My focus is on helping you to create actually helpful references to take forward with you into your next series of works.
