HANDS

June 28 & 29
10-5pm both days

Hands can often make or break figurative artwork - they are stunningly complex structures with endless gestural possibilities! They add compositional interest and expressiveness to portraits. Due to their complexity, they can often become intimidating to draw or paint.

This mini workshop intensive will focus exclusively on drawing Hands (with detours into Feet). We will start with a lecture on hand anatomy and structure. Discussion will be followed by demonstration and application through gestures and longer poses with various art models.

Sunday will focus more on aesthetics and personal media choice. We will begin the morning with masterwork examples and transition to developing ideas, integrating our understanding into model poses with chosen media - oil, gouache, graphite or charcoal/chalk most recommended.

  • Saturday & Sunday 10-5pm, Lunch break 1-2pm

  • Beginner - Advanced, Drawing OK

  • Light solvent use allowed, Gamsol recommended

STILL LIFE

July 19 & 20
10-5pm both days

Mini workshop intensive will focus on developing still life artwork. Students can bring in their own objects or choose from a selection at the studio. We will begin with a lecture on the important components of good painting design, and then use the still life genre as a method for implementation of key concepts. Discussion topics will focus on good drawing, color control, composition, edges, and efficiency.

Feedback and personal demos will be offered throughout the weekend. The possibility to extend your work into Monday will be offered, if needed!
